OVRI to Become a Landscape Ontario Sector Group

The Ontario Vegetated Roof Industry (OVRI) is set to become a new Landscape Ontario Sector Group in 2026. The new Sector Group will be available for industry professionals to join and have their interests represented in OVRI’s upcoming workplan.

After the repeal of the Green Roof Bylaw and accompanying construction standard in November 2025, it was clear that there were unique challenges and opportunities facing vegetated roof and living architecture companies in Ontario. Industry professionals came together to form the Ontario Vegetated Roof Industry (OVRI) group with the first goal of establishing themselves as a Sector Group with Landscape Ontario.

Landscape Ontario represents the broad interests of the horticultural industry, which are represented by individual sector groups. Sector groups are responsible for identifying projects and initiatives that will help to improve the overall business environment for their specific industry. Sector groups respond to concerns resulting from marketplace pressures and government legislation. Sector groups meet various times a year, including a formal meeting at the Landscape Ontario Congress.

OVRI believes a strategic alignment with Landscape Ontario will support its mission of driving forward vegetated roof and living architecture education, advocacy and research. Landscape Ontario’s 2030 Strategic Plan identifies “Environmental Stewardship” as a foundational pillar.

Vegetated roofs can play a key role in supporting the horticulture industry’s ability to meet Ontario’s evolving climate and infrastructure needs.

With the upcoming launch of the new Sector Group, the Ontario Vegetated Roof Industry group is expanding its membership and inviting design, maintenance and installation companies across Ontario to join OVRI and support its mission. Members will have the opportunity to connect with industry professionals, influence policy advocacy objectives, and participate in OVRI’s long-term planning. Members bring valuable perspectives that will help shape the industry’s future and ensure Ontario’s vegetated roof and living architecture companies can grow, sustain and thrive.
